A sweet and crunchy homemade kettle corn popped to perfection on the stovetop with a delicate balance of sugar and salt.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Add vegetable oil and 3 popcorn kernels into a saucepan.
  2. Cover with a lid and set the stove to medium-high heat.
  3. Once all 3 initial kernels pop, add the remaining popcorn kernels and shake to coat in oil, then pour the sugar directly over the kernels.
  4. Shake the pot for 3 seconds, rest for 3 seconds, and repeat until the kernels start popping steadily, lifting the pot slightly if needed depending on your stove type.
  5. Once rapid popping begins, gently shake the pot every 1 to 2 seconds.
  6. When popping slows down and you no longer hear pops for about 3 seconds, immediately transfer the popcorn into a bowl to prevent burning.
