A fresh and vibrant South American dish originating in Peru. Made with fresh white fish or seafood cured in zesty lime juice and tossed with thinly sliced red onions, salt, and pepper. Simple, refreshing, and easy to customize.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Slice the red onion as thinly as possible. Place the onion slices in a bowl of cold water to soak for a few minutes; this softens their raw punch so they do not overpower the dish.
  2. While the onions soak, cut your chosen seafood into uniform bite-sized cubes. Season the seafood generously with salt and pepper in a mixing bowl.
  3. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the seafood until well covered.
  4. Add the soaked onion slices, cover the bowl, and chill in the refrigerator. Allow to marinate for at least 1 hour, or leave overnight for fuller flavor development.
