Ingredients

Directions

  1. English:
  2. Heat the cooking oil and butter together in a frying pan over medium heat until melted and shimmering.
  3. Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic cloves.
  4. Add the onion and garlic to the heated pan, sauteing for about 3 minutes until translucent and fragrant.
  5. Season with salt, ground cumin, and paprika to taste (stirring until the mixture takes on a warm reddish-brown tint). Fry for roughly 5 minutes to release the spices' aromatics.
  6. Open the can of pre-cooked beans. Pour the beans into the pan, adjusting the amount of canning liquid based on your preferred consistency (discard some liquid for thicker beans).
  7. Mash the beans thoroughly into the spice mixture with a spatula or potato masher. Lower heat to medium-low and let fry for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring periodically to prevent sticking.
  8. Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy hot with fresh totopos.
  9. Español (México):
  16. Sirve calientito y disfruta con unos totopos bien crujientes.
