English:
A refreshing, chilled sweet fruit drink popular across Eastern Europe. Similar in flavor to a light strawberry jam or conserve, it offers a crisp, fruit-punch-like consistency that is perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. English:
  2. Prepare three bowls and a small knife or butter knife.
  3. Transfer the strawberries into a colander or bowl and wash them thoroughly.
  4. Remove the leaves and stem from each strawberry. Peel the green top by hand and use the knife tip to core out the stem.
  5. Cut any large strawberries in half.
  6. Place all cleaned strawberries into a 4-quart (3.8 L) pot and fill with water up to the brim.
  7. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. The strawberries will naturally lose color as they infuse the liquid.
  8. Once boiling, allow it to simmer for 5 minutes.
  9. Turn off the heat and gradually stir in sugar to taste (about 1 to 1.5 cups or 237g to 355g). Sample between additions to prevent over-sweetening.
  10. Let the pot cool to room temperature, then transfer to the refrigerator and serve chilled.
  11. Español (México):
  20. Deja enfriar la olla a temperatura ambiente, luego refrigera y sirve bien helado.
