A smooth and comforting classic potato purée made with tender potatoes whipped together with warm milk, butter, and optional grated cheese. A versatile dish that pairs wonderfully as a side with beans, roasted meats, or stewed vegetables.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into small pieces—smaller pieces will cook much faster.
  2. Place the potato pieces into a pot and cover them completely with water.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until the potatoes are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
  4. Drain the water thoroughly and mash the potatoes well using a fork or potato masher.
  5. In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the milk until hot, making sure not to bring it to a boil.
  6. Keep the pot over low heat, add the butter, warm milk, mashed potatoes, and optional grated cheese, then stir until completely smooth and uniform.
  7. Continue stirring over low heat until the purée reaches your desired thickness before serving.
